Not what the character wants long-term, what they want right now. To leave... To impress... To avoid the truth... To win without looking like they tried.

Without clear intention, a scene has no direction, pressure and no tension.

Intention gives purpose to every line, every look, every silence.
It’s what turns a conversation into a scene.

Know what your characters want and make them try to get it the only way they know how.
